This is the most common concern we hear, and the honest answer is no, it doesn't hurt. You'll feel slight pressure and hear a gentle suction sound, but there's no sharp pain and no anaesthesia needed. Most patients are surprised by how quick and comfortable it is. The procedure is done under a surgical microscope, so Dr. Soma can see exactly what he's doing at all times.

You can, and for mild buildup, a GP may be fine. But GPs typically use ear syringing (water flush) with a basic otoscope. If your wax is impacted, or you have an infection or perforated eardrum you don't know about, syringing can push the wax deeper or cause water retention. We use dry suction under a surgical microscope: no water, no guesswork. We also see many patients who come to us after a GP visit that didn't resolve the issue.

This is extremely common. Ear drops can soften surface wax, but they can't dislodge a hardened or deeply impacted plug. In some cases, drops can even make the blockage worse by causing the wax to swell.
